830 series SSD range

The 2.5in Samsung SSD 830 series will come with a high-performance SATA Revision 3.0 interface, which effectively doubles the data bandwidth of Samsung's previous SSD range, the 470 series. SATA 3.0 delivers data transfer speeds of up to 6Gbits/s.
Like other SSDs, the range promises faster performance, lower power cost, reduced heat output and higher reliability than hard disk drives, reducing the risk of a hard drive crash.
Samsung claims its SSDs are better than rivals because it makes all of the components itself, which it says enhances reliability. It also lauds its firmware and Magician software, which it says ensures that the SSDs will run at peak performance.
Samsung has attempted to ease the difficulty of upgrading to SSD by bundling in Norton Ghost software, which can reduce the upgrade time by up to 75 per cent thanks to the ability to back up user data. It also throws in a bracket for installing the 2.5in drive in a 3.5in drive bay.
Samsung is also touting the "stylish and chic exterior" of the SSDs, with their "deep black tone" and "orange accent", but since these are internal drives that most people never see after installation we wonder why it bothered and if it thinks this will really be a selling point.
The 830 series will be available in four capacities - 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but like all SSDs we can expect them to be much more expensive than mechanical hard disk drives. Samsung has promised more details closer to the release date in October. ยต
